Worldwide Lexicon

Translating The Web To And From Any Human Language

Hi, I've just given worldwidelexicon a try, I really like the idea, although as a freelance translator and blogger I feel that it could be much better targeted or marketed to become successful.

For professional freelance translators it would be a great way to showcase specialized translation. But for that to work, I bet most translators would like not only their name to be on each translation but also a link to their website. I'm not saying this should be turned into a pagerank machine, a nofollow for this would be appropriate. I would be very happy to go around translating tech articles professionally if I knew that it would attract potential customers to my freelance translation website. I know that in an ideal world there would be enough volunteers to drive this project, but if you manage to attract the freelance translator crowd you can be sure to see the translations flying in.

As for blogging, this is probably something you already thought about, but when I read the article that led me here, it didn't sound like this is how you present it. This project seems like a wonderful way for bloggers to exchange their translations. For example I could translate a whole range of blogs into French and get my main blog translated into a variety of languages. I'm just thinking that this way of thinking about the service could be put forward more towards bloggers than the philanthropic aspect of it. The point is that I think the service could be better presented by describing what some existing communities can potentially do with it, rather than focusing on its nature. Twitter is a good example of this, since presenting what people can do with it is a much richer way of describing it than explaining what it is by itself.

I need to get more familiar with the wordpress plugin, it seems like it could be a good replacement for Language Switcher which I currently use for my bilingual blog.

Lastly, I was a little bothered by the fact that I had to sign up on the service itself and then sign up here to talk about the project. It's just one of these things that might be a bottleneck to contributions.
