What role if any should machine translation have in localization?

I have worked as a free-lance translator on some interesting projects from a text in the field of insurance to business letters and an article on De Stijl, a Dutch art movement. I am not sure if a complete machine translation program would have given me good results.

Text Mining and Lexicography

I have lately started to study text mining. This had led me think about text mining as a tool for lexicographers. I would love to hear from computer science specialists to see if this would be possible.

Free translation software.

I downloaded a free translation program named TRANSWIZ from Download.com. This is a perfect example of a dictionary translation program. It has no mechanism for resolving ambiguities.
