Brian McConnell New Group for Firelex Developers and Testers

Hello everyone,

I created a group for Firelex developers and users. Firelex is our new plug in for the popular Firefox web browser. It enables people to post and edit translations to _any_ webpage, including websites that are not participating in the Worldwide Lexicon, or are unaware of its existence. We will be releasing Firelex in mid August. If you would like to test it, let me know. -- Brian

John Van Kerk What role if any should machine translation have in localization?

I have worked as a free-lance translator on some interesting projects from a text in the field of insurance to business letters and an article on De Stijl, a Dutch art movement. I am not sure if a complete machine translation program would have given me good results. Continue

John Van Kerk Free translation software.

I downloaded a free translation program named TRANSWIZ from Download.com. This is a perfect example of a dictionary translation program. It has no mechanism for resolving ambiguities. In my opinion the only virtue of this program is that a younger generation can see what my colleagues were doing in the area of machine translation.Here are some interesting transformations that take place.
